FAQs and Other Information
Work experience placements at our Trust are wide-ranging, from clinical placements either in the community or inpatient facilities to corporate placements in areas such as Human Resources, Finance and Facilities and Estates. Work experience placements are offered in a variety of flexible ways; one to two week block placements, variable days for a set number of weeks or even specialist programmes.
A DBS check is not essential when undertaking a placement at MPFT. However managers may request a copy depending on the area(s) in which you wish to gain experience. This will be actioned accordingly. We would suggest a recommendation or reference from the Form Tutor or Head of Year as a better method.
Working hours will be negotiated with the team leader/supervisor. However a full working day is normally 9:00 - 16:30.
Placements are offered on weekdays only - weekend work is arranged under our voluntary work scheme.
Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust offers work experience opportunities to students aged 14+. Corporate/admin placements are offered to students aged 14-16 and clinical placements for students aged 16+. If you would like more details please see our age restrictions document.
If undertaking a clinical placement, we ask for appropriate modest wear, i.e. smart T-shirt, smart trousers and sensible footwear. No see-through clothing, no obvious logos or writing and no loose jewellery. If undertaking a corporate placement, we ask for appropriate corporate wear, i.e. smart shirt/blouse, smart trousers/knee-length skirt and sensible footwear. When confirming your placement at MPFT, you will receive a confirmation letter which will include details regarding dress code.
If you are unable to attend because of sickness, you should inform your supervisor or the placement organiser as soon as possible and keep us informed as to the likely date of return. We may ask you for a reason (for your well-being and our auditing purposes) but this will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.
We have an on-site cafe/restaurant at our main facilities. Most of our facilities are within easy reach of shops/town. Due to the vast amount of students that we accept for work experience within our organisation, we are unable to fund students for food and travel.
Yes. We ask students to complete an evaluation form for our records. Once we have received the students' completed evaluation form, we will email a certificate to the student.
We re-introduced Aspiring Doctors Days at MPFT during 2023. The Workforce Development Team and Dr Gul led 2 very well attended days at Staffordshire University in Stafford in June and at The Redwoods Centre in Shrewsbury in November. Schools were invited from all areas of the two counties to attend sessions where they heard from our Doctors/Consultants, Medical Students, had CPR training, had use of simulation experiences from Staffs Uni and Telford College, talks from Research and Development team and Pharmacy team.

This summer we were very excited to introduce a new Aspiring Day for Pharmacy.
We have worked very closely with Kamal Klair and his pharmacy colleagues to provide a busy, informative, interactive day for students in school years 10 to 13.
Our days were fun and we have had a lot of positive feedback.
