MPFT is part of two forensic liaison schemes. One in Wolverhampton and the other in Shropshire. These schemes are a forum to discuss the forensic treatment needs, management and on going support for service users with serious mental health issues.
The Wolverhampton Forensic Liaison Scheme (WFLS) is a long running partnership between the MPFT and Black Country Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
The Scheme provides an advisory service and forum to discuss the forensic treatment needs, management and ongoing support of service-users with serious mental health issues who are open to BCPFT and who pose a significant risk to others or who have a history of violent or sexual offending.
The Scheme is led by the MPFT forensic multi-disciplinary team based at The Hatherton Centre medium secure unit in Stafford and consists of the following:
Members of both services work together as a multi-professional clinical team. Referral to the scheme will normally be the responsibility of the responsible clinician or care co-ordinator in BCPFT. The Scheme meets on a weekly basis.
Referrals are made to the scheme co-ordinator who works for the MPFT. The Hatherton centre provides specialist advice and support. Clinical responsibility for their care remains with the local services when they are resident in Wolverhampton.

The Shropshire Forensic Liaison Scheme (SFLS) is operated by the members of the Shropshire Forensic Mental Health Team. The scheme aims to serve local clinicians in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin using a liaison model, tailored to meet the needs of the more rural and geographically dispersed community. The scheme provides specialist multi-disciplinary forensic advice to colleagues working with service users who may pose a risk of harm to others.

A written referral can be made providing details of service user and their clinical background, in addition to a brief description of what assistance/advice you are seeking with respect to risk management. Upon receipt of the referral, the team secretary will arrange an appointment for you to attend the SFLS which meets weekly. Appointments are 60 minutes.
