The Children’s and Young People's Diabetes Team provides both specialist care and support to children (0-18 years of age) and their families with a diagnosis of diabetes. Support is provided in a variety of settings as well as providing a 7-day On Call Service to reduce and in most cases prevent unnecessary hospital admissions.

The service:

  • Provides specialist support, education, training and expert advice from diagnosis through to supported transition to Adult Services.
  • Work in partnership with the Child and Family providing real choice as to how and where they receive nursing care and support.
  • For additional resources, please explore our Diabetes Education Leaflets and Information

We also have a team of Diabetes Youth Workers who provide individual and group support to young people with a diagnosis of diabetes.

Referral Criteria

Referrals are received via The University Hospital of North Midlands Children’s Ward for children and young people aged 0-18 years with a suspected diagnosis of Diabetes.
