MPFT continues to deliver high quality community mental health care, following the publication of a new patient-led national survey.

At MPFT, we aim to provide high quality care and are committed to improving the experience and outcomes for everyone using our services. The Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) annual Community Mental Health Survey invites service users and patients to share their experiences of using mental health services each year. Feedback is sought on the quality of support received, providing a valuable opportunity to hear the voices of those who use our services. This feedback allows us to make improvements where necessary to enable us to provide the best possible mental health care for our communities.

A total of 361 service users responded to the latest survey, our highest response rate to date. The results found that MPFT was rated better, or the same as the 53 NHS trusts that participated.

The Trust’s results in all sections of the survey scored either the same as the previous year or better. We scored better in the ‘planning care’, ‘medication’, ‘support in accessing care’, ‘respect, dignity and compassion’ and ‘overall experience’ sections of the survey.

Individual questions on which our service users rated us as somewhat better or better include:

  • Did you get the help you needed?
  • Do you have a care plan?
  • Were you given a choice on how your care and treatment would be delivered?
  • Have any of the following been discussed with you about your medication? Benefits of medication.
  • Have any of the following been discussed with you about your medication? What will happen if I stop taking my medication?
  • Overall, in the last 12 months, did you feel that you were treated with respect and dignity by NHS mental health services?
  • Overall, in the last 12 months, how was your experience of using the NHS mental health services?

Liz Lockett, MPFT's Chief Nurse and Deputy Chief Executive Officer said: “The Community Mental Health Survey provides a key opportunity for us to understand the views of individuals who use our mental health services on the quality and safety of care they have received.

“The latest survey results are really positive and I’m delighted the Trust has scored better in a number of areas. This is testament to the hard work of our colleagues in continually striving to do their best and to improve and develop their services for the benefit of those requiring our care and support. We’re committed to improving the experience and outcomes for everyone using our services, their families, and carers.”
