The annual survey serves as a hugely important barometer of the experiences of NHS staff, and the results help to guide where enhancements can be made in the delivery of patient care and staff wellbeing.
They also provide an important measure of performance against the NHS People Promise, a cornerstone initiative working to improve the experience of everyone working in the NHS.
MPFT continues to outperform many trusts of its type, having scored above average in all nine areas of the survey. Notably, it has achieved the best scores nationally among trusts of a similar type in two key elements of the NHS People Promise: ‘safe and healthy’ and ‘we are always learning’.
A total of 75% of staff rubberstamped MPFT as a fantastic place to work. This is almost 10% higher than the national average and highlights the Trust’s commitment to the wellbeing of its workforce.
An impressive 81% of staff feel their individual differences are respected at work, more than 6% above the national average – demonstrating the Trust’s efforts to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve its ambition of making MPFT a fantastic place to work for everyone.
As a complex integrated organisation providing physical and mental health services, MPFT is committed to developing its workforce in order to continually improve the services it delivers. This has been reflected in the 79% of staff who say they have opportunities to improve their knowledge and skills – almost 5% higher than the national average.
MPFT Chief Executive Officer Neil Carr, said: “In what has been a tremendously challenging 12 months for the NHS, I’m extremely proud of our latest Staff Survey results. I’m equally proud of the hard work and dedication of our incredible staff, without whom MPFT wouldn’t be what it is.
“I’m delighted a record-breaking number of our colleagues took the time to complete their survey and share their experiences. This is an indicator that our workforce knows we listen closely to their views, and appreciates we are committed to doing everything we can to ensure everyone has a voice that counts.
“Whilst I’m delighted the Trust has scored among the best nationally, we know there is more to do and work is underway to learn from the feedback we’ve received and channel it into driving further change.
“We remain committed to working together to get the best outcomes for our workforce, those who need our services and the communities we support.”
